Hailing from Baxley, GA, Dr. Stephen J. Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA and his Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He is currently a General Surgery Resident at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC, where he is receiving comprehensive training across a wide range of surgical disciplines.

As part of his residency, Dr. Smith is developing advanced clinical expertise in acute care surgery, oncologic surgery, breast surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, robotic surgery, trauma surgery, critical care, and endoscopy, preparing him to deliver high-quality, patient-centered surgical care across complex clinical settings.

In addition to his civilian medical training, Dr. Smith proudly serves in the Georgia Army National Guard, demonstrating a strong commitment to service - both in medicine and to his community and country.

Dr. Smith holds multiple medical licenses and professional certifications, is a published author, and has received numerous academic honors and recognitions throughout his career.
