Bacon County Hospital and Health System CEO

CEO's Message

The Bacon County Hospital and Health System is entering a new period of growth. Because of the faith of the Bacon County community, we were successful in November 2005 in acquiring funding for the addition of a second story to the hospital. The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendum item was voted in overwhelmingly by the people of Bacon County, making $1 million available for this needed building project. The 2005 SPLOST vote marked the second time in the hospital's history county tax dollars were received (the first time was the 2001 SPLOST vote).

This project enabled us to comply with new mandates for air quality, as well as federal requirements for patient privacy and accessibility to the disabled that have come into existence or changed since the original building was built in 1952. On June 17, 2008, the ground was broken, and we began the three phase construction project in July 2008. The first phase was a second story patient care area consisting of a 4-room private ICU, a 4-room post-partum suite, and 17 private patient rooms. The second floor also includes a 4-bed nursery, an in-patient waiting area, and an ICU waiting area. This phase was completed in May 2009. The second phase of the project consisted of renovations and additions to the Diagnostic Imaging Department, which now offers state-of-the-art radiology services, including ultrasound with 4D capability, Digital Mammography, 64 Slice Toshiba Aquillion CT, 1.5 Tesla MRI, and Nuclear Medicine; making this department totally digital, and the Laboratory Department, which is also equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation. We had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on May 19, 2010, celebrating the completion of the first two phases. The third phase of the construction project included two new state-of-the-art surgical suites, an Ambulatory Surgery entrance and waiting room, two digital ENDO suites, and a 4-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the completion of the third and final phase was held on March 12, 2010. These services will potentially help us to generate more revenue to pay for this project and to continue sustaining ourselves in the distant future.

Upon receiving a grant for $985,000.00, we upgraded to 160 slice Toshiba Aquillion CT technology in February of 2011. I am proud to say that Bacon County Hospital and Health System is one of only three hospitals in the state of Georgia to have such an advanced CT imaging system.

Bacon County Hospital and Health System has been recognized by the Georgia Hospital Association's (GHA) Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) for achieving the "Right Care Every Time" Quality Honor Roll. The GHA divides its honor roll into three tiers, with the highest designation being the Chairman's Honor Roll. Our facility is one of only 24 in Georgia to be placed in the Chairman's category, so we're very honored for achieving Chairman's Honor Roll status at 98-100 percent. All acute care hospitals are required to submit care data to the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS). This data details how well a hospital's caregivers adhere to a list of eight Appropriate Care Measures (ACM), which are the clinical processes of care known to be the most effective methods of treatment for patients who have suffered heart attacks, heart failure or pneumonia. The ACM is a composite measure that determines whether or not a patient received the right care at the right time.

Since there are so few hospitals statewide that make the Chairman's Honor Roll, this is quite an accomplishment for our facility. It proves to our patients and families that they can take pride in knowing their local hospital is committed to providing the best and safest care possible.

We have enjoyed serving our community for over fifty years because you are our neighbors, our family members, and our friends. We thank you for your past service and look forward to continuing our relationship with you for many years to come! All of us within the Health System are committed to provide the highest quality primary healthcare.

Sincerely,

Cindy R. Turner,

Chief Executive Officer
